:: General Rules
    for Training

    Upon Entering the Do-Chang

  • Students both in do-bok or street clothes shall salute the flags and bow to the instructor on the floor as soon as they enter. Students do not have to wait for the instructor to acknowledge the bow.
  • No horseplay before or after class will be tolerated.

    Starting Class

  • Students will line up according to rank. The highest-ranking member present will be on the right of the instructor.
  • The instructor will take a position in the front center of the class.
  • The highest-ranking member in class will call the commands: (1) cha ryut (attention), and (2) kyung yet (bow).
  • Profanity, the open display of anger or any form of disrespect at any time is not keeping with the highest ideals of Tae Kwon Do and will not be tolerated.

    During Class

  • Proper respect and discipline shall be maintained at all times and Tae Kwon Do rules followed in a uniform manner.
  • When the Master Instructor or a higher-ranking Black Belt enters the do-chang, the instructor on the floor (or highest ranking member in the class) will call the class to attention, bow, then return immediately to training.
  • When a student comes to class late, he should wait until he is recognized by the instructor, bow, then join class.
  • When a student must leave the do-chang during training, he should first receive permission from one of the instructors.
  • If a student has to ask the instructor anything, he should first approach a senior (ranking) member to gain permission. A chain of command should always be instituted, except for an emergency.
  • Students are prohibited from chewing gum, smoking, eating and drinking in the do-chang.
  • Talking among students during class is prohibited.
  • No student is allowed in the instructor's office without his or her permission.

  • Students seated on the side will remain still and attentive, so as not to disturb those on the floor.
  • Do not talk while seated on the floor.

    Cleanliness

  • During practice, members should observe decorum and orderliness. The do-chang should always be kept clean and well-ventilated.
  • Traditionally, new students sweep the floor of the do-chang before class begins. If no white belts are present, then the next belt takes charge of the floor.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene at all times. Fingernails and toenails should be kept trimmed.

    Uniform (Do-Bok)

  • The do-bok should always be clean and neat. Never throw the do-bok belt on the floor.

  • No jewelry is to be worn during class.

    Special Meetings

  • Students are required to attend special meetings.
  • If unable to attend special meetings, inform the instructor ahead of time.
  • Any high-ranking belt who wishes to call a meeting must inform the Head Instructor first to discuss the purpose of the meeting.
  • All students are required to stay until the exam is over. If you need to leave, get permission ahead of time from the Head Instructor.
